Established in 2016 by Andrew Whitty, Phoenix Principal Finance is a boutique corporate and institutional advisory firm specialising in structured finance, including capital raising, asset backed finance, trade finance, project finance, deal origination and securities structuring across Africa. The firm partners with corporate, institutional investors and asset managers to engineer bespoke financial solutions and execute complex transactions across both private and listed markets.

About Andrew Whitty

Andrew Whitty is a structured finance specialist with over 25 years’ experience across investment banking, asset management and fintech. After 16 years in investment banking — including senior leadership roles at ABSA Corporate & Investment Bank and eight years in the UK at Bank of America — he founded Phoenix Principal Finance in 2016.

He has originated, structured and distributed investment products across multiple asset classes, leading ABSA’s Institutional Sales and Corporate & Institutional Cross Asset Structuring teams, and served on the JSE Debt Advisory Committee. Andrew has established multiple Special Purpose Issuers in partnership with a South African institutional investor, with circa R5 billion in listed and privately placed securities issued to date and acts as a Debt Listing Agent for the Cape Town Stock Exchange.

Alongside Phoenix, he has consulted to and originated transactions for a South African asset manager, including running a renewable energy investment fund, adding sector specific asset management experience to his broader structured finance expertise.
